The rain and chilly air did not stop a great UHSAA state cross-country competition for Utah schools at the Regional Athletic Complex at Rose Park, UT. Region 1 boys and girls showed heart and desire in competing for their schools. A great atmosphere with amazing school support from the student body, administration, and families made for an outstanding event.

Girls 6A State Championship- Layton Lancers Hailey Low finished 5th

The overall girl’s winner for 6A was Andie Aagard from Lone Peak with a time of 17:26.6. Region 1 saw an amazing performance by Layton High senior Hailey Low, finishing in 5th place with a time of 18.14.4. Low also came into the state race as the reigning region 1 girls’ winner. “I stuck to the first pack for the first mile and a half,” said Low. “I just gave it all I got”. “Cross country is my life and my heart said Low.”

Other outstanding performances from region 1 girls were sophomore Skye Siddoway from Farmington, finishing 24th in 19:10. Low’s Lancer teammate senior Carli Nelson finished 25th in 19:10.2. Weber Warriors freshman Gracie Rodarte finished 30th in a time of 19:31.2. Clearfield Falcons sophomore Gretchen Higley finished 32nd in 19:34.7. The girl’s team results saw Lone Peak score 30 points and become the 6A girls’ champion. Region 1 schools had Weber as the top team finishing with 214 points and 7th overall. Farmington Phoenix was 9th with 225 points. Layton finished 11th, and Fremont 15th overall.

Boys 6A State Championship- Farmington Phoenix Spencer Bradshaw finishes 4th

The overall boy’s winner for 6A was Daniel Simmons from American Fork with a time of 14:49.8. Region 1 had a great race from Farmington’s senior Spencer Bradshaw who finished 4th with a time of 15:20.0. “I went for the win and stuck with Daniel,” said Bradshaw. “I kinda died the last mile, but I am happy how I did.” Bradshaw has plans to run in the Nike Cross Regionals (NXR) in Mesa Arizona in November. Other top finishers from region 1 were Weber junior Andrew Harris finishing 6th with a time of 15:29.6. Harris’ teammate junior Landon Hart finished 23rd in 15:52.4. Fremont Silverwolves senior Simon Petersen crossed the line in 26th with a time of 15:57.3.

The boy’s team results had the American Fork Cavemen winning the state title with 76 points. The top region 1 schools were Farmington in 7th place with 164 points. Weber finished in 9th place with 227 points, and Fremont and Davis finished 12th and 13th with 325 and 339 points.
