The Timpanogos Timberwolves marched into Tooele and beat the Tooele Buffaloes 52-10. The Tooele offense was unable to get anything done against the stout Timpanogos defense, only garnering 244 yards all game, and losing a fumble. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves netted 77 total tackles, ten tackles for loss, a sack, an interception, and a fumble recovery.

The Timberwolves made the Buffalo defense look silly by bullying them both through the air and on the ground. The only thing of note the defense did was grab two picks off of unadvised passes from QB Chase Riggs, who was returning from injury.

First Quarter

The first quarter set the precedent for the entire game. Timpanogos scored two quick touchdowns, a pass from Riggs to star WR Luke Livingston, and a rush from star RB Easton Bretzing. The two drives they had in the first quarter that evening were almost immaculate. The Timberwolves were completely unfazed by Tooele’s defense. Timpanogos entered the half with a 14-0 lead.

Second Quarter

This is when the Timberwolves began to experience some issues. One pass from Riggs to Livingston was intercepted to start the quarter, and Tooele looked like they might have some momentum. The sturdy Timpanogos defense then kept Buffalo QB Kaden Dean again from gaining any yards, making them punt once again. Riggs threw another touchdown pass, this time to WR Gabe Graff. The Buffaloes started to get going down the field,m, but once again, they were stopped by the Timberwolves. Kicker Franklin Wilcox knocked in a field goal. The kickoff happened and the momentum immediately shifted back to the Timberwolves. Riggs was spreading out the receiving game, and ended up hitting WR Dash McCann for a touchdown. The score was 28-3 going into halftime.

Third Quarter

The third quarter started with another failed Buffalo drive. What else happened next, but a Timpanogos touchdown, run in by Bretzing. Tooele again couldn’t find anything on their next drive, and the Timberwolves took over again. Riggs, really feeling it in his first game back from injury, threw another touchdown to TE Josh Graf. This quarter seemed to take forever, as both the Timberwolves and the Buffaloes exchanged drives. The third quarter ended with a score of 42-3.

Fourth Quarter

To start the fourth quarter, Bretzing was able to kick a relatively short field goal to extend the lead even more. This is when the Buffaloes finally got something done. Dean handed the ball to RB Vaughn Gritzmacher on an outside run to the left side. Gritzmacher ran around 40 yards, and made it into the end zone credit to an outstanding block by Dean. Tooele finally scored a touchdown, and they were excited. They kicked the ball off to Timpanogos, and the Timberwolves did what they do best. They marched down the field, and capped off their drive, and effectively the game, with a touchdown pass from Riggs to WR Parker Harvey. Timpanogos ended up winning 52-10.

Keys to the Win

“Teamwork,” Livingston said. “We knew if we blocked our screens really well, and blocked the box really well, we were gonna win. We did that and we executed pretty well. My quarterback Chase Riggs was back. I think he played amazing.”

“Our blocks,” Riggs said. “I’d hand it off and then everyone would come in the box and try to stop it. Then, I’d throw out and receivers would block. I’d say just overall blocking was the key.”

Players of the Game

“My quarterback Chase Riggs was back,” Livingston said. “I think he played amazing.”

“That’s truly a tough one,” Riggs said. “It was just a well put together game. I think Luke (Livingston) back at receiver stood out. Josh Graf hadn’t had a touchdown and we got him one! We just spread the ball around and it was a fun game, so I’d say everyone.”
