This week in Region 10 went almost exactly as expected. There were three region match-ups this week, and one non-region game. Cottonwood and Tooele faced off, with the Buffaloes bringing home their first win of the season. Stansbury and Jordan played in Stansbury, where the Stallions comfortably beat the Beetdiggers. Park City hosted Murray and made the Spartans look silly. Hillcrest played Canyon View and got humiliated by the Falcons in a blowout loss.
Tooele vs. Cottonwood (52-27)
The Tooele Buffaloes beat the Cottonwood Colts in an exciting, high-octane game. The Buffs welcomed the Colts to win their first game of the season. This game showed the contrast of both offenses, and the turnover ability of the defenses.
Offensively, the Colts ran a pass-heavy offense. They threw the ball 44 times, connected on 27 of those for 287 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Cottonwood ran the ball 21 times for 55 yards, two touchdowns, and a fumble.
The Buffs, on the other hand, ran a run-heavy offense. They completed 11 of their 15 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns. Tooele ran the ball 42 times for 311 yards, five touchdowns, and three fumbles.
Defensively, Cottonwood had just one tackle for loss, one sack, and three fumble recoveries. Tooele had a lot more luck on the defensive side, with five tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery.
Overall, the Buffaloes were able to find the end zone more often than the Colts, and also showed out better defensively. After this game the Buffaloes improve to 1-4 on the season, and will look to add another win to their record when they play Hillcrest on Friday at 7 PM.
The Colts’ losing streak continues, going to 0-5 on the season. They’ll continue to attempt to regain their footing when they play the Jordan Beetdiggers on Friday at 7 PM.
Stansbury vs. Jordan (40-8)

Park City vs. Murray (65-7)
The Park City Miners hosted the Murray Spartans in quite the blowout. This beat-down was won by all aspects of the game, both defensively and offensively.
The Miners completed 15 of their 24 passes for 222 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. They also ran the ball 42 times for 270 yards and four touchdowns.
On the other hand, the Spartans went just 6 for 29 on their passes for 118 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. They ran the ball the ball 16 times for an abysmal 34 yards.
Park City basically won this game by their defense by itself. They held back Murray so well, that they had just 31 tackles, two forced and recovered fumbles, and three interceptions.
The Spartans had a tough night defensively. They had 64 total tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, and an interception. These stats don’t sound all that bad, until you remember that Murray gave up eight touchdowns.
The Miners looked incredibly solid this game, and protected their undefeated record, improving to 5-0 on the season. In their next game, they’ll have to protect their record against the scrappy 3-2 Stansbury, who they will host on Friday at 7 PM. This match-up is anticipated to essentially be for the Region Championship.
Murray, on the other hand, will have to pick up the pieces after this loss. They’ll be going up against a tough 2-3 Payson squad in Payson on Friday at 7 PM.
Hillcrest vs. Canyon View (49-0)
The Hillcrest Huskies had a tough time in their non-region match-up against Canyon View. Hillcrest’s offense had a tough time moving the ball all night, and their defense was unable to stop the pass.
Offensively, the Huskies completed six of just 11 passes for 40 yards and three interceptions. On the ground, they ran the ball 26 times for a measly 70 yards.
The Falcons, on the other hand, dominated through the air. They threw the ball 27 times and connected on 20 of them for 289 yards and a whopping six touchdowns. However, they had less success on the ground, running the ball 20 times for 96 yards and a touchdown.
On the defensive side, Hillcrest could only slow Canyon View, but couldn’t force any turnovers. They had 48 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and a sack. They forced just one punt all game.
For Canyon View, they racked up 53 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, two fumble recoveries, and three interceptions. Their ability to hold the Huskies to just 110 total yards was the reason they won that game.
The Huskies will look to find answers for the loss during practice this week, and then hit the field again when they host Tooele on Friday at 7 PM.
