by AJ Conlin: The Region 8/10 Insider
This week in Region 8 was full of excitement! Uintah made the trip down to Orem to play Timpanogos, but took home a brutal loss. The Provo Bulldogs had a similar experience, travelling down to California to play Clovis East, from Clovis, California, and bringing home a loss. The rivalry game between Payson and Salem Hills was intense, and ended up with the Skyhawks bringing the game home. Finally, Spanish Fork comfortably beat Mountain View to continue their region winning streak.
Provo vs. Clovis East (41-24)
The Provo Bulldogs traveled to a neutral site in California to play the Clovis Timberwolves, and ended up getting bested. The Bulldogs just couldn’t get a whole lot done through the air, and had trouble finding the end zone all game.
Offensively, the Bulldogs completed just 14 of their 32 passes for 202 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. They ran the ball 40 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns, and just had trouble getting anything going.
The Timberwolves were much better offensively. They completed 13 of their 24 passes for an unreal 409 passing yards, four touchdowns, and an interception. On the ground, they ran the ball 29 times for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, there isn’t a whole ton to talk about, other than both teams grabbing one interception and one fumble each.
Overall, the Bulldogs lost this game due to their inability to get much done in the passing game. They’ll have to have a short memory as they go into this week, because they’ll have one of their tougher region opponents. Provo will host the Timberwolves of Timpanogos of Friday at 7 PM.
Timpanogos vs. Uintah (45-0)
The Timpanogos Timberwolves showed the Uintah Utes how it’s done when they shut the Utes out at home. The QB/WR duo of Chase Riggs and Luke Livingston is continuing to punish every team the Timberwolves come across, and this game was no exception.
Offensively, the Timberwolves were stellar. Riggs threw 19 for 31 and picked up 320 yards, with four touchdowns and not a single interception. The run game was harder for them to establish, but they ran the ball 23 times, and ended up with 146 yards and a touchdown.
The Utes had a much harder night, completing just seven of 20 passes for a measly 59 yards and two interceptions. They ran the ball 20 times for just 59 yards.
On the defensive side, the Timberwolves put on a masterclass. They recorded 51 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery. The turnover game elevated Timpanogos to an even bigger shutout than what it would have already been.
The Utes recorded 45 tackles and two tackles for loss. That’s all.
Overall, the Timberwolves looked really good in this game, and had a lot of really positive energy. They’ll need that positive energy as they travel downto their game against the Provo Bulldogs on Friday at 7 PM.
The Utes will have to find a way to field an offense in practice this week, and then showcase what they’ve worked on. They’ll have that opportunity when they travel to play the Mountain View Bruins on Friday at 7 PM.

Spanish Fork vs. Mountain View (35-7)
The Spanish Fork Dons hosted the Mountain View Bruins and defended their home field in a good game. The defense saved the offense’s bacon this game, even though they were clicking decently well, they still gave the ball away three times.
Offensively, the Dons went 24 for 34 on their passes for 315 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. They added 35 carries for 194 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The Bruins had a much harder night on the offensive side of the ball. They completed just 11 of their 26 passes for 124 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. They had no luck on the ground, carrying the ball 19 times and actually ending with -1 yard.
Defensively, both teams grabbed interceptions, the Dons snagged one and the Bruins grabbed three. That is pretty much the only stat worth mentioning.
Overall, the Dons had a good game this week. It could’ve been a lot cleaner, but all that matters is that they took home the win. They’ll need that momentum of another win as they go into their game against Salem Hills, who they’ll travel to play on Friday at 7 PM.
The Bruins will have to continue looking for answers to their 1-4 record, but this week, they’ll have an easier match-up against the Uintah Utes, also 1-4. They’ll host the Utes at their stadium on Friday at 7 PM.
