The Provo Bulldogs hosted the Timpanogos Timberwolves in a game widely considered to be critical to region standings. The Bulldogs tamed the Timberwolves in a 48-13 victory.

First Quarter

The Timberwolves started off strong, scoring two touchdowns. The first was run from RB Easton Bretzing with eight minutes left in the quarter. The second was an 11-yard pass from QB Chase Riggs to WR Cache McCann with just over four minutes left in the quarter. It looked like the Timberwolves were going to continue flaunting their high-octane offense throughout the game. Going into the second quarter, it became apparent that wasn’t going to be case.

Second Quarter

The Bulldogs showed what they can do, opening up the quarter with a seven yard run from Tagai Lesa. After a couple more back and forth drives, Lesa struck again with a nine yard run with just over one minute left in the game. Lesa showed off to finish off the half with another touchdown run, taking the lead 21-13. Although Lesa calmed down for the rest of the game, he was still key in scoring drives, and set the precedent for the win.

Third Quarter

Provo didn’t stop pouring it on. They scored twice this half, once just under the eight minute mark, and once with four minutes to go. The former was an 11-yard pass from QB Soakai Aston to WR Drew Deucher, and the latter was a 46 yard connection between the aforementioned duo. The Timpanogos defense could not stop the Bulldogs as they extended the lead to 34-13.

Fourth Quarter

The Bulldogs continued to punish the Timberwolves in the fourth quarter, garnering another two touchdowns. Aston had another touchdown through the air, this time hitting WR Kyle Larsen for 37 yards with just 6:48 left to play. Just 44 seconds later, Sophomore RB Lincoln Dansie was responsible for the other touchdown, punching it in for the two yard touchdown. Timpanogos eventually succumbed, leaving the score at 48-13.

Keys to the game

The key to this game was containing the Timberwolves in all aspects of the game. Provo’s defense played wonderfully, holding them only to 13 points while also forcing two turnovers. The offense ended up with 494 total yards, with seven touchdowns.

Overall, the Bulldogs played great and are looking good heading into the second half of the season. They will next take a short road trip down to Payson to play the Lions on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Timberwolves were missing the presence of star receiver Luke Livingston which could be a reason why they had a tough game. They’ll have to forget this loss, and get back in the driver’s seat when they play Mountain View at home on Friday at 7 p.m.
