Last week in Region 8 played out almost routinely. The only thing that made it seem a little off was how close all of the games were. Provo beat Payson 26-23, Salem Hills beat Uintah just 27-20, and Timpanogos beat Mountain View 30-14. Spanish Fork did not play a game.

Salem Hills vs. Uintah (27-20)

The game between the Salem Hills Skyhawks and the Uintah Utes was a close match. Offensively, the Utes actually gained just two more yards than the Skyhawks, with 388 yards. Defensively, the Utes also won the turnover battle, grabbing two interceptions as opposed to the Skyhawks’ one fumble recovery.

Overall, this game was a battle for field position, ultimately won by the Skyhawks. Salem Hills appears to have been without starting QB Jedi Nelson, but were able to pull through with Freshman QB Ledger Holmes running the offense.

The Skyhawks will now return home after the win, and have some time to get used to Ledger Holmes, if he should be QB1 going forward. They’ll host Mountain View on Friday at 7 PM.

The Utes were close to pulling out their first region win, but couldn’t quite pull it off. They won’t get the chance to try and improve that this week, since they have the non-region match-up against Cottonwood on today at 7 p.m.

Timpanogos vs. Mountain View

The Timpanogos Timberwolves hosted the Mountain View Bruins in a game with a couple of crazy stat lines and a big first quarter. Timberwolf QB Chase Riggs completed an unreal 32 of 41 passes for 366 yards, but just one touchdown, and two interceptions.

This game was ultimately won by the Timberwolves on the ground. RB Easton Bretzing carried the ball 25 times for 122 yards and three touchdowns.

The Bruins actually won the turnover battle, snatching two interceptions and recovering two fumbles, as opposed to the Timberwolves’ one interception and two fumble recoveries.

Essentially, the Timberwolves were able to convert on third downs and continue down the field, while the Bruins couldn’t.

The Timberwolves will return when they play Payson on Friday at 7 p.m. for Payson’s Homecoming game.

The Bruins will have to travel down to the same area as the Timberwolves to play Salem Hills on Friday at 7 p.m.
