This week in Region 8 had quite the impact on the region standings. Timpanogos beat Payson, essentially shutting the door on them from having a chance of finishing in the top half of the region.

Provo beat Spanish Fork, putting them in a tough position. They will have to win their next two games in order to finish in the top half of the region rather than the bottom half.

Every game was unique and exciting in its own way, and is worth talking about.

Provo vs. Spanish Fork

The Provo Bulldogs traveled to play the Spanish Fork Dons and took home another win. It wasn’t a walk in the park, though. The score was actually 22-21 in favor of the Dons until there were just 51 seconds left in the game. The Bulldogs were able to score a touchdown and then convert for two points after. The Dons couldn’t get the job done after that and ultimately lost 29-22.

The Provo offense was clicking all night they racked up 379 total yards and four touchdowns. They didn’t turn the ball over once.

Spanish Fork’s offense gained more yardage than Provo with 399 on the night, with three touchdowns, all on the ground.

The Bulldogs’ defense did really well. They were able to grab two interceptions and recover a fumble. Winning the turnover battle was a huge factor in winning the game.

The Dons weren’t able to do as much on defense. They didn’t force any turnovers, which ultimately lost them the turnover battle and ultimately, the game.

Provo’s next game will be at home against Uintah today at 7 p.m.

The Dons will make the trip down to Payson for their next game, which will be on Friday at 7 p.m.

Salem Hills vs. Mountain View

This game should have been closer than it was. The stats are close, and it came down to returns off of turnovers.

Salem Hills combined for a total of 397 yards and five touchdowns, three on the ground and two through the air. Mountain View combined for 309 yards and just two touchdowns, one rushing and the other passing.

Salem Hills and Mountain View both created three turnovers, but only the Skyhawks were able to score off of it in the 41-14 win. They also gained 47 yards off of interception returns.

The Skyhawksb’ next game will be a tough one at Timpanogos, which they’ll play on today at 7 p.m.

The Bruins will play the non-region game this week against the Jordan Beetdiggers from Region 10. They’ll travel to the Salt Lake Valley to play them on Friday at 7 p.m.

Uintah vs. Cottonwood

The Uintah Utes welcomed the Cottonwood Colts, and beat them 37-7. They had little trouble stopping the Colts and moved the ball relatively easily themselves.

The Colts gained 367 total yards and one touchdown through the air. They threw two interceptions, and even took a safety in the first quarter. Defensively, they recovered one fumble, but were otherwise pretty quiet.

RB Dace O’Bagy had all four offensive scores for Uintah, two on the ground and two through the air. Defensively, they were monstrous. They snagged two interceptions, with one being returned for a touchdown. They also scored a safety, setting the precedent for the game.

Overall, the Utes were able to take down the fourth worst team in the State of Utah pretty easily. Their last two games aren’t looking too good for them, though. The first will be played on Friday at Provo, who currently stands at the top of the region standings.
