The Park City Miners and the Stansbury Stallions met at Zion’s Bank Stadium in Herriman for the Semifinal round of the Utah 4A Girls Soccer Playoffs. The Miners ended up finding the edge over their Region 10 rival in the second overtime, winning the game 2-1.
This game was the third time the two teams have met this season. All three were won by the Miners, by scores of 4-2, 1-1, and most recently, 2-1.
Neither team could get anything done during the first half. However, the Miners looked slightly better throughout the first 40 minutes.
Park City Sophomore Hailey Olsen scored the first goal around 20 minutes into the second half, putting the Miners up 1-0. After some back and forth, and a dramatic final five minutes, Stallion Sophomore Emi Major was fouled by Park City Senior Remy Rogers. Major scored off of the corner kick with just 40 seconds to spare.
The game went into overtime, where there were many missed goal opportunities for both the Miners and the Stallions. The game was won not even one minute into the second overtime. Park City Senior Kendall Hassel found the net off of a corner kick, winning the game for the Miners.
The Stallions’ season is over, going 17-3 overall, every one of their losses to the Miners.
The Miners are headed to the 4A State Championship game sporting a 17-2 record. They’ll play the Green Canyon Wolves on Friday at 2 PM at America First Field. (Rio Tinto Stadium)
