The regular season in Region 10 is over, and the playoffs are upon us. Week 10, however, is nothing to be glossed over, with many games being very important in playoff predictions.

There were three region match-ups, with Park City taking the non-region match-up this week. With the season coming to a close, Region 10 has put four of their seven teams in the playoffs. Without further ado, your Week 10 recap.

Cottonwood vs. Murray (32-16)

The Cottonwood Colts hosted the Murray Spartans in a thrilling match region match-up. The Colts ended up running down the Spartans to victory.

Offensively, the Colts were superior. They racked up a total of 385 yards and three touchdowns. They also kicked two field goals. The Spartans were only able to gain 179 yards all game and one touchdown all game. They kicked one field goal, and returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

Defensively, Cottonwood won the turnover battle 4-3, with the Spartans adding a blocked field goal. The game was fairly even on this front.

Overall, this game was actually really exciting, considering all of the turnovers, special teams plays, and offensive scoring.

This is the end of the season for both the Colts and the Spartans. The Colts went 2-8 and finished 25th in 4A and 96th in the state. The Spartans went 1-9 and ended up ranked 26th in 4A and 98th in the state.

Jordan vs. Hillcrest (14-13)

The Jordan Beetdiggers beat the Hillcrest Huskies at home in a slug fest of a game. The game was a nail-biter for the Beetdiggers and a heart-breaking loss for the Huskies.

Both teams amassed 290 and 235 yards respectively. They also both scored two touchdowns, with the Beetdiggers converting for two points in the first quarter, ultimately winning them the game.

Defensively, the Beetdiggers won the turnover battle 4-1, which makes it all the more surprising that the game was so close.

This game was 8-7 going into the half. During the third quarter, the Huskies took the lead, going up 13-8. With just 26 seconds left on the clock, the Beetdiggers punched in a touchdown from four yards out, ultimately winning them the game 14-13.

This marked the end of the season for the Huskies, but not the Beetdiggers. The Huskies finished the season with a 1-9 record, while being ranked 27th in 4A and 100th in the state. The Beetdiggers finished with a 3-6 record and ranked 22nd in 4A and 93rd in the state.

Park City vs. Springville (9-35)

The Park City Miners hosted the Springville Red Devils and subsequently lost the game in less than stellar fashion. This was not in any way a signature Park City game.

The Miners were only able to run for 113 yards and 74 passing yards. Their only touchdown came through the air, and they kicked one field goal. They lost three fumbles, and subsequently, the turnover battle 3-0.

Overall, this did not look like Park City. It may have been because Springville is a 5A Powerhouse, making them much tougher competition than their regular region opponents.

Don’t worry, though, this is not the last we’ve seen of Park City. They finished the regular season with a 9-1 record while ranked 4th in 4A and 31st in the state.

Stansbury vs. Tooele (41-27)

The Stansbury Stallions hosted the Tooele Buffaloes in a heated cross-town rivalry game. They defended their home field and their 12-3 record against the Buffs in a 41-27 win.

The Stallions went to work offensively, gaining 429 yards, taking advantage of Tooele’s lackluster pass defense and RB Tyson Ferry, who returned from injury. The Buffs racked up 289 yards, 166 of them coming from through the air, which is rather backwards for Tooele, who usually relies on their run game.

Defensively, the Stallions won the turnover battle 2-0. One was off of a muffed punt, recovered by Josh Syphus. The other was a 60-yard pick six by Alex Geovjian. The Buffs did not do anything noteworthy on defense.

This game was not as close as the score would seem to indicate. Stansbury pulled some of their starters in the third quarter, and then pulled the majority of them for the fourth quarter.

This is not the last you have seen of either team. The Stallions finished with a record of 6-4, placed 11th in 4A, and 51st in the state. The Buffs finished with a record of 4-6, placed 21st in 4A, and 85th in the state.
