After the first week of playoff football, Region 10 has just two teams in the playoffs. Neither of the games that happened this week were particularly interesting, ending in blowout scores. Only one team from Region 10 received a bye.

Park City (bye)

The Park City Miners were the only team in the region to receive a bye. This bye week was probably a bit of a relax week before going hard into game planning for the next game.

The Miners’ next game will be against the Dixie Flyers. Despite the Flyers sporting just a 5-6 record, they were not a bad team. In fact, the two teams actually played during the regular season, just before region play. The final score was 24-21 in an incredibly close game.

That game was taken early by the Miners, going up 24-0 at the half. The Flyers rallied to score 21 points during the 4th quarter, but ultimately couldn’t finish the job.

This game is projected to end in a similar score as the previous, but be more of an even match rather than a dramatic, comeback game. This is the playoffs, so it is any team’s game. They will play in Park City on Friday, October 27th at 6 PM.

Stansbury vs. Jordan (62-7)

The Stansbury Stallions hosted the Jordan Beetdiggers for the second time this season. The first game was won by the Stallions 40-8, and the second 62-7.

The Stallions were in the drivers’ seat the entire game, with their backups scoring 20 of their points during the second half. The stats for this game were also insane. Jordan has not entered stats for this game.

The Stallions racked up 460 total yards, split nearly in half between passing and rushing yards. They completed 11 of just 15 passes and five touchdowns, along with three touchdowns on the ground.

Defensively, they managed to keep the tackle total to just 42 total, adding two tackles for loss and five sacks. Noah Syphus also managed to disrupt a pass from Jordan QB Jakarin Owens, which was intercepted and brought into the end zone by Sophomore lineman Charles Barbiero.

Nobody was surprised with the outcome of this game, only by the sheer amount of points the Stallions put up against the Beetdiggers. The Beetdiggers’ season came to an end finishing with a record of 3-7.

The Stallions will advance to the second round of the playoffs, and travel to play the Ridgeline Riverhawks. These teams also have history, as they played in the final week before region play in the Rocky Mountain Kickoff at Utah State University.

The Riverhawks upended the Stallions 28-27 in a nail-biter. This next game is projected to be another close game, with no clear favorite to win. They will play in Millville on Friday at 6 PM.

Tooele (63-14 Loss)

The Tooele Buffaloes traveled up to Hyrum to play the Mountain Crest Mustangs. They were subsequently blown out in a disappointing loss.

The Buffs were only able to score two touchdowns on the ground, despite rushing for 158 yards and passing for 142. Senior QB Kaden Dean threw two interceptions, one being returned for a touchdown.

Defensively, they gave up 572 total yards and seven touchdowns. They also let a returner slip through their hands and gave up another touchdown off of a punt return.

Overall, the Buffs were nowhere close to the best team on the field last week, and subsequently ended their season on an incredibly flat note. They finished the season with a 4-7 record.
