February 19, 2025 – Logan, Utah. USU men’s basketball vs. San José State.

The Utah State Aggies delivered a commanding performance against the San José State Spartans, securing a 105–57 victory at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah. This 48-point margin marked the Aggies’ largest win over a conference opponent since joining the Mountain West in 2013, and it stands as one of the most lopsided games in Mountain West history.

From the outset, Utah State established dominance, leading 47–24 at halftime. Senior guard Ian Martinez spearheaded the offense with 22 points and three steals, while Mason Falslev contributed 13 points, eight assists, and three steals. Dexter Akanno added 13 points, shooting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.

The Aggies’ relentless pace continued into the second half, highlighted by a 23–2 scoring run that extended their lead to 83–36. Their defense stifled the Spartans, forcing turnovers and limiting scoring opportunities, showcasing a comprehensive team effort on both ends of the court.

San José State struggled to find rhythm, with Donavan Yap and Sadraque NgaNga each scoring 15 points. The Spartans’ shooting woes and turnovers hindered their ability to mount a comeback, underscoring the challenges they faced against a formidable Utah State squad .

The Hurd fan section boo’d and jeered on the Spartans with one exception. When former Aggie, Josh Uduje, stepped off the bench, they cheered him and recognized his contributions to the Aggies last season! Each time he shot the ball there was an audible sigh of disappointment when he missed. He went 0 for 7, including 5 missed 3-point shots. Uduje finished with 4 pounts from behind the line and 5 rebounds in the Spartans loss.

This victory improved Utah State’s record to 23–4 overall and 13–3 in Mountain West play, reinforcing their position as a conference contender. Hoping to repeat last year’s championship performance! Under first-year head coach Jerrod Calhoun, the Aggies have demonstrated resilience and cohesion, attributes that will be pivotal as they approach postseason play .
