In the third matchup of the Fremont Silverwolves (21-3) and the Weber Warriors (11-13) this season, the Silverwolves completed the sweep. Standout performances were pivotal in the Silverwolves’ 53-39 triumph. Can one player alter the course of a game?
Sophomore Abby Christensen answered with a dazzling 19-point display, scoring from the inside and outside throughout the game. Christensen’s nine points in the first quarter set the tone, while the Silverwolves’ defense limited the Warriors to four points. Senior Avary Post hit big shots as the game progressed, and the defensive trio of juniors Lily Hall, Maya Jensen, and sophomore Olivia Surrage effectively neutralized the Warrior’s inside threats.
Although junior Rylee Jugler, who scored 13 points, led a Warriors-spirited comeback, the Silverwolves maintained their composure. Free throws from Christensen and senior Sophie Valdez sealed the victory in the clutch moments.

Game highlights
Hall and Surrage made layups to help Christensen in the first quarter. The Warriors got points from seniors Katelyn Poulsen’s layup and Logyn Howell’s two free throws.
The second quarter saw the Silverwolves open their lead to a 28-10 halftime score. The Silverwolves found the range from behind the arc, with Mia McArthur, Surrage, and Post knocking down three-pointers. Team defense by the Silverwolves held the Warriors to six points in the second quarter.
The third quarter started like the first half ended, with Post scoring points for the Silverwolves on a jump shot. The Warriors would get their offense on track, with Jugler making baskets inside and senior Abby Sayer knocking down a three-point shot in the quarter.
With a 21-deficit heading into the fourth quarter, the Warriors would keep fighting and cut into the Silverwolve’s lead. Lineup changes, three-point baskets, and tough defense helped the Warriors make it close. Freshman Bradey Schiffman made two three-pointers, Sayer and Jugler made one, and the Warriors scored 20 fourth-quarter points. The comeback would fall short for the Warriors as Valdez and Christensen’s free throws would propel them into the next round.

Katelyn Poulsen
Outstanding performers
Christensen led all scorers with 19 points, and Post scored 10 for the Silverwolves. Hall, Jensen, and Surrage’s defensive effort inside made it difficult for the Warriors to get in position for easy baskets.
Jugler’s late surge helped her finish with a team-high 13 points, and Sayer was next with nine points. Sayer’s outstanding career concludes with over 600 points and 200 rebounds for the Warriors.
Next for the Silverwolves and Warriors
The four-seed Silverwolves will play the five-seed Bingham Miners at the University of Utah on February 24, 2025, in the quarterfinals of the state tournament.
The Warriors’ season ends with an 11-13 overall record. Schiffman and Jugler’s return next season will provide an excellent one-two punch for the Warriors.
