Bountiful Redhawks

2024 overall and region record (27-5) (13-1)

Head coach: Darby Freeland

Head coach Darby Freeland takes over at Bountiful, replacing retired coaching legend Butch Latey. Freeland takes over at Bountiful after being an assistant at Copper Hills High School and the last three years as an assistant coach for the Redhawks. Freeland is not looking to slow anything down at Bountiful, as the Redhawks have been region champions six years in a row.

“This is a new era of Bountiful softball,” coach Freeland said. “We will build on the past success but pave our own way moving forward. We will be disciplined and respectful opponents and do the work. Our goals this year will revolve around being competitive by winning the region championship and competing for a state championship.”

Ella Miller

Senior Ella Miller, a Utah Valley University commit, returns for the Redhawks after dominating in the circle and at the plate in 2024. Miller struck out 279 batters while also hitting .393 with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs to earn Deseret News First Team All-State honors.

Shortstop Isabeau Hoff returns after batting .440 with five home runs and scoring 36 runs. Second baseman Claire Yates batted .380 with 11 doubles last season. Hoff and Yates garnered Honorable Mention All-Region honors as juniors. Aspyn Danner returns as an experienced outfielder for the Redhawks after batting .359 in 2024.

“My coaching philosophy and style are to be efficient and effective,” coach Freeland said. “I always want my athletes to give me their best each day, and they can expect the same from me. I want the girls in the Bountiful High softball program to leave the program as a better athlete and person than when they entered.”

The Redhawks finished the 2024 season ranked number four according to the MaxPreps 5A rankings. The 2025 season will be exciting to see who emerges as the Redhawk’s new stars as they look to defend their region title.
