Layton Lancers

2024 overall and region record (3-18) (1-9)

Head coach: Kiley Crockett

Although the Layton Lancers 2024 season had fewer wins than the team would have liked, the energy, commitment, and attitude never wavered. The Lancers will welcome back a full roster of players who gained valuable experience last season.

“I feel as young as we were last season and so many underclassmen that started in a varsity role will help to contribute to successful season,” Head coach Kiley Crockett said.

Coach Crockett will look to senior Megan Child and juniors Macie Clark and Lexie Himle as key contributors to a Lancer team ready for a breakthrough season.

Macie Clark

A game that showed the Lancers’ competitive fire last season was their “senior night” home contest against the Farmington Phoenix. The Lancers pulled out a 2-1 victory that saw them battle for every out and at bat. Child and Clark scored the Lancers two crucial runs in the region win.

Child led the Lancers in runs scored with 13 and finished the season with a .441 on-base percentage. Child’s experience includes 51 games played for the Lancers in her career. Clark was impressive as a middle infielder during her sophomore year and looks to build on that experience this season.

Himle returns for the Lancers and brings experience in the field and in the circle. She has played at the varsity level since her freshman year and is the Lancers’ top returning pitcher.

A talented group of sophomores led by Ryleigh Newey, Serenity Overton, and Olivia Woodall are ready to be major contributors this coming season. Newey led the team with two home runs last year, coming in back-to-back games against Clearfield and Cyprus. Newey went 5-7 with two home runs and six runs batted in the two games. Overton will use her versatility as a catcher and third baseman for the Lancers. Woodall saw action in all 21 games and delivered a run-scoring hit in the victory over the Phoenix.

In the Lancers’ season finale against the Corner Canyon Chargers, they battled to tie the game at eight in the seventh inning before the Chargers scored three runs for an 11-8 final score. Overton finished 2-3 with four runs batted in, and Woodall scored two runs to highlight the Lancers effort. The 2025 season looks bright for the Lancers, and the off-season hard work has them ready for a breakout year.

“Take advantage of every day to get better,” coach Crockett said. “Control the controllable and get better every day.”
