SANDY, Utah — May 22, 2025

In a tightly contested match at America First Field, American Fork High School secured its second consecutive 6A boys soccer state championship, defeating Bingham High School 1-0. The decisive goal came in the 30th minute when senior Lewis Knecht found the back of the net, assisted by fellow senior Demetri Larsen.

Head Coach Casey Waldron expressed immense pride in his team’s achievement, noting the significance of winning back-to-back titles for the first time in 40 years. “There’s no better feeling,” Waldron said. “We talked about it last year — 40 years in the making of getting another championship. So, this is very fitting, very special for us.”

The Cavemen’s journey to the championship was marked by resilience and determination. After a challenging second-round match against Copper Hills that went to penalties, American Fork secured single-goal victories in the subsequent rounds, including a 2-1 win over Skyridge in the semifinals.

Bingham High School, entering the playoffs as the 13th seed, made an impressive run to the finals, highlighted by a dramatic penalty shootout victory over top-seeded Lone Peak in the semifinals. Despite their efforts, the Miners were unable to break through American Fork’s steadfast defense in the championship match.

Senior goalkeeper Jaxon Dingus played a pivotal role in preserving the shutout, making several key saves to thwart Bingham’s offensive threats. The defensive unit, bolstered by players like Sam Nettesheim and Jayden Brown, maintained composure under pressure to secure the victory.

As American Fork celebrates this historic achievement, the program looks ahead with optimism. With a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, the Cavemen aim to continue their legacy of excellence in Utah high school soccer.
