On Saturday, Sept. 27, then-No. 25 BYU opened Big 12 play in Boulder against the Colorado Buffaloes and came away with a 24-21 win to go 4-0, sealed by an interception from Isaiah Glasker with less than two minutes left in the game. Since then, the Cougars have climbed to No. 23 in the AP Poll.
The Cougars started slow on offense and defense, allowing the Buffs to go up 14-0 on their first two drives. During those drives, Kaidon Salter totaled 89 yards—58 passing and 31 rushing. He had help from Micah Welch and Dre’Lon Miller, who combined for 57 rushing yards.

After this, the Cougars made major adjustments and slowed down the Colorado offense. Over the next seven drives, BYU held the Buffs to just 118 total yards and only one touchdown.
Offensively, BYU got things going with 10 unanswered points in the first half and 14 more in the second. Bear Bachmeier looked sharp, totaling 277 yards—going 19/27 for 179 passing yards with two touchdown passes—and leading the team in rushing with 98 yards.
On Sept. 29, Bachmeier was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the second time and was featured as the No. 6 freshman in ESPN’s 2025 freshman rankings of the season thus far. Bachmeier also received praise from ESPN’s Mark Jones, who said in a BYU Football X post, “I’m really impressed with the poise of this true freshman, Bear Bachmeier.”
