The Roy Royals are entering the 2025–26 season with a fresh sense of purpose and a familiar face at the helm. Head Coach Josie Williams, a Roy High alum and former collegiate standout at the University of Louisville and Utah Valley University, returns to her roots as the Royals’ new head coach. Her arrival marks the beginning of a new chapter for the program, one built on grit, growth, and community.
“Roy High holds a special place in my heart,” Coach Williams said. “My time as a student here was unforgettable, and returning as part of the school community has been an incredible experience. I’m truly honored and grateful to be back.”

Royals’ Head Coach Josie Williams
Coach Williams champions connection and confidence
Coach Williams brings a wealth of experience from her collegiate playing days, which she’s channeling into her coaching philosophy.
“Playing at both Louisville and UVU gave me so many opportunities to grow and learn,” Coach Williams said. “Those experiences continue to guide me this season and influence how I coach, lead, and connect with my players.”
Her approach emphasizes skill development, basketball IQ, and building confidence. But above all, she wants her athletes to love the game and carry its lessons beyond the court.
Coach Williams believes that trust and connection are the cornerstones of effective leadership. That philosophy extends to her coaching staff, which includes Chris Solomona, Mario Prieto, and Sarah Shulz.
“Leadership isn’t just about giving instructions, it’s about connecting with people,” Coach Williams said. “All three assistants bring something unique to our program. They’re incredible people with basketball experience, and I’m very grateful to have them on staff.”

Jazzi Prieto
Prieto Steers the Transition
The Royals finished the 2024 campaign with a 6–8 record in Region 5 play and an 8–15 overall mark. While the season had its share of challenges, it also laid the groundwork for growth. With a new coaching staff and a renewed sense of direction, Roy is poised to take the next step forward.
Leading the charge this season will be third-year starting point guard Jazzi Prieto. A steady presence on the court, Prieto averaged 5.3 points per game last season and will be counted on to guide a young roster through the transition.
“Jazzi is going to be a huge part of what we do,” Coach Williams said. “Her experience and leadership are invaluable, especially as we work to establish our culture and identity.”
In her first season, Williams is focused on instilling core values that will define the Royals’ identity.
“Teamwork, growth, and toughness are at the heart of what we’re building,” Coach Williams said. “We’ll be process-driven and focused on the steps we need to take to get where we want to go.”
With Prieto as the anchor, the Royals will look to a group of newcomers to step up and fill key roles. Developing chemistry and confidence will be crucial as the team navigates a competitive Region 5 schedule.

Eva Reed
Players to watch
The Royals will lean on senior leadership to complement Prieto’s steady hand at point guard. Three veterans are expected to play pivotal roles in shaping the team’s identity this season:
- Eva Reed (Guard) – A versatile backcourt presence, Reed brings defensive intensity and the ability to stretch the floor. Her leadership and composure will be vital in guiding younger guards through the rigors of Region 5 play.
- Cambri Boyack (Forward) – Known for her toughness in the paint, Boyack provides rebounding strength and a physical edge. Her willingness to battle inside gives the Royals a reliable post option and sets the tone for the team’s toughness.
- True James (Forward) – With size and athleticism, James adds versatility to the frontcourt. She has the ability to defend multiple positions and contribute offensively, making her a key piece in Roy’s push for consistency.
As the Royals tip off a new season, the energy around the program is unmistakable. With Coach Williams’ fresh vision, a committed staff, and leaders like Jazzi Prieto setting the tone, Roy is building more than just a team; they’re shaping a culture rooted in growth, grit, and belief. The road ahead may be challenging, but the foundation is solid, and the future is bright. Backed by passionate student sections and a loyal community that rallies behind its athletes, the Royals are ready to rise, together.
