The Farmington Phoenix girls’ basketball team turned defense into dominance Tuesday night, suffocating Bonneville with relentless pressure and forcing turnovers that fueled a decisive 52-37 non-region victory.

Farmington built a commanding 46-19 lead through three quarters, using its smothering defense to disrupt Bonneville’s rhythm and convert mistakes into points. The Phoenix then coasted through the final frame to secure their third straight win, improving to 5-1 overall.

Phoenix sophomore guard Olive Wayland led the charge with 14 points, while Makelle Weber, also a sophomore guard, added 12.

Bonneville, now 3-4 on the season, was paced by junior standout Baya Jimenez, who poured in 17 points. Jimenez, an Honorable Mention All-State selection last year, surpassed 500 career points in the contest and continues her hot start to the season, ranking fourth in 5A with a 17.7 scoring average. Senior Whitni Johnson chipped in seven points for the Lakers.

Despite trailing big, the Lakers kept fighting and showed grit in the fourth quarter, outscoring Farmington 18-6 to close the gap. Still, the Phoenix defensive dominance earlier in the game left Bonneville too far behind to mount a comeback.

Bonneville’s late push showed the team’s resilience despite the deficit, a spark they’ll hope to carry into upcoming games. Farmington, meanwhile, continues to ride momentum with its defense-first identity, now winners of three straight. The Phoenix will face a tough test on December 11, 2025, when they travel to meet undefeated Pleasant Grove, a team that edged them by three points last year. Bonneville’s next challenge comes on the road as well, with a visit to the Viewmont Vikings on December 17, 2025.
