Thousands of athletes have competed at Utah State University. Only a select few can say they set a school record.
Dillon Maggard is now a member of the select few.
This cross country harrier set a school record for the best placing at the national college cross country championships. The newly crowned All-American was the twelfth runner to cross the finish line in Terre Haute, Indiana. He clocked in at 30:03.9 for the ten kilometer race.
Maggard becomes only the second male Aggie ever to achieve All-American status in cross country. The only other to do so was Trevor Ball in 2005. Runners can achieve All American Status by placing in the top 40 at nationals.
Dillon grew up in the state of Washington. The northwestern states have been well known to produce talented runners due to the popularity of famous former Oregon runner Steve Prefontaine.
Maggard has come a long way since running the five kilometer race in 16:19 at Lake Wahington high school. His ten kilometer time is now at a faster pace than the shorter high school distance.
When Maggard puts in the mileage he makes history.
