For the second consecutive year, the Utah State Gymnastics team was picked to finish third in the Mountain Rim Gymnastics conference. Boise State was picked first, Southern Utah second, and BYU tied USU for third place with four points over their own.
Boise State is the obvious choice for first here as they have won the last two conference championship. They are the Queen Bee until someone proves otherwise.
BYU returns 10 gymnasts from last season. They return the 2015 MRGC Freshman of the year in Jill Van Mierlo so BYU will be a tough out with this young Brigham Young star having one year under her belt.
Southern Utah will be led by eight seniors in 2017, including 2016 NCAA National qualifier Dani Ramirez, who is one of three Thunderbirds returning with all-MRGC honors in 2016.
The Aggies return eight letterwinners from a team that qualified for its third straight NCAA Regional Championships last season, including a pair of all-MRGC honorees in seniors Bailey McIntire and Hayley Sanzotti. McIntire earned first-team all-MRGC honors on bars and beam, and second-team honors on vault. Sanzotti earned second-team all-MRGC honors on beam.
According to the Utah State University press release, “The 2017 MRGC Championships will be hosted by Utah State on March 18. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the Utah State ticket office at 1-888-USTATE-1 or by visiting the USU ticket office online at http://www.utahstateaggies.com/tickets.”
The Aggies were picked bronze but a team that always believes that they will win will go for the gold.
