With the exception of BYU Cougar Fred Warner and Ute Kylie Fitts, nobody else in the Beehive State was drafted in the NFL Draft last week. However, that doesn’t mean players can’t make noise in minicamps or sign contracts as undrafted free agents. It’s time to sing loud about the unsung heroes of college football in Logan.
Jalen Davis, Utah State Aggies: Jalen Davis was a great instinctive cornerback last year for the Aggies. He had three interceptions and returned two of them for touchdowns in a rivalry win against BYU last year.
Despite a poor performance in the NFL Combine at the 40 yard dash and agility tests, the Miami Dolphins seemed impressed with Jalen’s skills and offered him a contract as an undrafted free agent.
Dallin Leavitt, USU Aggies: Dallin was an emotional leader for the Aggies even during some of their rough stretches the last couple years. He had 94 tackles his senior year. He also was just behind Davis with a second best 4 interceptions. He didn’t get noticed for an NFL contract but did get a chance to prove himself at the Raiders rookie minicamp.
Big Picture: The Aggies will need to make headlines again if they want to be able to put big time contributors like former defensive back Bobby Wagner has in the NFL. Getting back to winning seasons would be a great start!
