I am not shy about my fandom for the Utah State Aggies. Most analysts try to be objective and I do too but that doesn’t mean I hide my fandom. I have been a True Blue Aggie as long as I can remember and a Jazz fan for nearly as long. So it only makes sense that I highlight why tomorrow is such an important night when both worlds collide.
If we flash back to mid September the Aggies were about to lose their Mountain West opener to Air Force. They had lost to the Falcons for three consecutive years and had watched a double digit lead evaporate to single digits within a minute, two minutes tops. Three Jazz players had a huge impact on the crowd turnout though which gave the Aggies the 12th man they needed to get the 10 point win.
Flash forward two months and the Aggie football team is the 14th ranked team in the AP Poll and are unbeaten at Maverik Stadium. The Jazz are struggling and need a win against who else? The Mavericks.
Utah State die hards know that the best Mav is the Maverik Stadium in Logan, Utah. Once known as Romney Stadium, the new look Aggies are reaching, maybe even eclipsing the Dick Romney teams of old. With a win this Saturday the Aggies could be undefeated at home.
Meanwhile the Jazz have lost 4 straight and look to break the skid over a team they have already beaten once this season: The Dallas Mavericks. Donovan Mitchell has been a little injured too. What better night to have the Maverik Stadium on Wheels #PackTheViv on Jazz Aggie Night?
The first of its kind, Jazz Aggie night will be a unique opportunity for Jazz fans to see warm ups and a select few will be a part of the fan tunnel. The Utah Jazz will sport their classic purple jerseys at home for the first time this year.
It’s time to pay back Donovan Mitchell, Georges Niang and Royce O’Neale for bringing the party to Logan back in September. It’s time to #PackTheViv and get the Jazz back on the winning track. After all, every Aggie believes that they will win, whether down by 20 or up 10.
Prediction: The Jazz win 109-100 thanks to the Aggie faithful.
