By Jose Vidales | Real Salt Lake scored three goals against LAFC Wednesday night, shutting them out 3-0.
LAFC felt the absence of their star player, Carlos Vela, at Rio Tinto Stadium. Real Salt Lake head coach, Freddy Juarez, was pleased with his team’s performance as they came off a 4-0 away loss to Minnesota United Sunday night.
RSL midfielder Damir Kreilach led the team early with a header in the 9th minute of the game. That header gave RSL the momentum they needed. This game was crucial for RSL to win and the cards aligned just right for them to do so. Things were looking up for RSL early on in the match.
Shortly after the second half began, RSL’s Justin Meram finished off some impressive footwork with a close-range strike to bring the game to 2-0 in the 47th minute. RSL’s Albert Rusnák tucked away a penalty kick in the 79th minute to score the third goal of the night. RSL Goalkeeper Andrew Putna had eight saves against LAFC.
RSL’s crucial win puts them in 7th place in the Western Conference standings — 2 points ahead of now-8th place LAFC. RSL will look to build off this win in their Saturday night showdown with the Colorado Rapids. The match will take place at Rio Tinto Stadium at 7:30 PM MST.
