Real Salt Lake defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium Wednesday night.
By Jose Vidales | RSL head coach Freddy Juarez will be proud of his team as they managed to beat the Galaxy by two goals. The hosts came into the game looking to secure a crucial win after suffering back-to-back losses. The LA Galaxy, along with Mexican international player Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, failed to pose a convincing threat to RSL’s defense throughout the game.
RSL captain Albert Rusnák opened the scoring by converting from the spot in the 65th minute after teammate Justin Meram was fouled in the penalty box by the Galaxy goalkeeper. RSL midfielder Damir Kreilach later doubled the hosts’ advantage with his strike in the 72nd minute — his 6th goal of the season.
This result bumps RSL to 8th place in the Western Conference standings. Their next match will be away at Minnesota United on Sunday night. They will be hoping to build off of this win and take revenge as they were beaten in their last meeting 4-0.
