It has been a successful week for Weber State Athletics, particularly on the hardwood. It’s time to go over all the basketball games that were played this week.
Weber State Women’s Basketball
Coming off of a tough loss to the University of Idaho by a score of 62-41, the Weber State Women’s basketball team was hoping to rebound with a game at Eastern Washington on January 15, 2022. The Wildcats showed determination, staying neck and neck with Eastern Washington throughout the game. Unfortunately, the Wildcats ended up losing a close game by a final score of 56-52. Daryn Hickok and Emma Torbert led the Wildcats with 17 and 16 points, respectively. With the loss, the Wildcats overall record dropped to 7-9, with a 3-4 record in Big Sky play.
The Wildcats hoped to rebound with a game at Idaho State on Thursday, January 20, 2022. However, they lost that game as well. Their next game is tomorrow at 7 p.m. MST when they host an in-state opponent in Southern Utah.
Weber vs Idaho
The Weber State men’s basketball team has gotten off to a strong start to the season, with a 10-5 record after losing to Montana by a score of 74-72. The Wildcat’s next game was against Idaho on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the Dee Events Center. The Wildcats controlled the first half, outscoring Idaho 38-27. The second half was a back and forth affair, with both teams playing at a fast pace.
In the end, the Wildcats were able to hang on to earn the victory by a score of 84-74, improving their overall record to 11-5. Seikou Jawara Sisoho and JJ Overton led the Wildcats with 18 points each, while Koby McEwen and and Dyson Koehler scored 12 and 11 points respectively. The Wildcats improved to 4-1 in the Big Sky Conference.
Weber vs Idaho State Part 1
After beating the University of Idaho 84-74 on January 13, 2022 and improving their record to 11-5, the Weber State Men’s basketball team’s next game was Monday, January 17, 2022 against Idaho State University. The first half was a tightly contested affair and neither team could pull away, leading to a 30-30 tie at halftime.
In the second half, the Wildcats turned it up a notch, outsourcing Idaho State 48-31 to pick up the victory with a final score of 78-61. Koby McEwen and Seikou Sisoho Jawara each scored 23 points to lead the Wildcats to the victory. Weber State improved to a 12-5 overall record and a 5-1 record in the Big Sky.
Weber vs Idaho State Part 2
After defeating Idaho State University on the road 78-61 on January 17, 2022, the Weber State men’s basketball team had a rematch in Ogden on January 20, 2022. While it took a while for the Wildcats to pull away in Pocatello, the team had no problems in the rematch. The Wildcats were hot from the start and never let their foot off of the gas pedal, leading wire to wire to win. They won comfortably by a final score of 95-63.
JJ Overton led the Wildcats with 21 points, while Koby McEwen and Dillon Jones each scored 13 points. With the victory, Weber State improved to a 13-5 overall record and a 6-1 record in the Big Sky. The Wildcats now head on the road for a few games beginning with in-state rival Southern Utah on January 24, 2022 followed by games at Northern Colorado and Sacramento State.
