It’s time to look at the exciting week that the Weber State Wildcats have had in the athletics department.
After losing to Montana State at home, the Weber State Men’s basketball team’s next game was a rematch against Eastern Washington on the road. The first time these two teams played, it was a high scoring affair, and the Wildcats held on for the win, 90-84. The Wildcats found this game to be just as competitive, and at halftime the Wildcats trailed by just 3 points, 37-34. Despite staying close in the second half, the Wildcats couldn’t finish the job, and ended up losing by a final score of 67-75. Despite the close loss, Seikou Jawara Sisoho led the Wildcats with 24 points. Dontay Bassett and Koby McEwen each added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
After suffering a heartbreaking 75-67 loss to Eastern Washington on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the Weber State men’s basketball team was looking to rebound with a road game against Idaho on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Having beaten Idaho at home 84-74 on January 13, 2022, the Wildcats were confident that they could bounce back. Unfortunately, Idaho came out scorching from the field, and as a result, the Wildcats found themselves down 12-0 and later in the first half by a score of 37-17. As a result, the Wildcats found themselves down 37-24 at halftime.
Despite the rough first half, the Wildcats played ferociously in the second half. They ended up outscoring Idaho 55-46 in the second half, but in the end the big deficit was too much to overcome, as the Wildcats dropped their 3rd straight game by a final score of 83-79. Despite the loss, Koby McEwen led the Wildcats with 22 points. Dillon Jones and JJ Overton each added 17 points for the Wildcats.
With the three game losing streak, the Wildcats now have an overall record of 18-8 and 11-4 in the Big Sky Conference, dropping them from first in the conference to third place. The Wildcats return home for two games this week against Sacramento State and Northern Colorado. The Wildcats are hoping that the return home will help the team get back to it’s winning ways.
After a couple of close road losses to Montana and Montana State, the Weber State Women’s basketball team was looking to rebound with a couple of home games.
On Thursday, February 10, 2022, the Wildcats played Eastern Washington at home. The Wildcats stayed neck and neck with Eastern Washington through the first three quarters. Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn’t sustain the momentum in the fourth quarter, as they were outscored 24-11. The Wildcats ended up losing to Eastern Washington by a final score of 74-61, increasing the losing streak to three games. Despite the loss, Daryn Hickok led the Wildcats with 23 points. Jadyn Matthews and Kori Pentzer added 16 and 10 points for the Wildcats, respectively.
The Wildcats had another home game against Idaho on Saturday, February 12, 2022. After falling behind early, the Wildcats showed fight and were neck and neck with Idaho going into the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, like the last game against Eastern Washington, the Wildcats couldn’t keep up the momentum in the fourth quarter, and ended up falling to Idaho by a final score of 82-73. In spite of the loss, Daryn Hickok led the Wildcats with 18 points. Emma Torbert and Jadyn Matthews added 17 and 13 points, respectively.
With the two losses, the Wildcats’ overall record dropped to 8-16 and 4-11 in the Big Sky Conference. The Wildcats will look to rebound this week with road games against Sacramento State and Northern Colorado.
