RSL moves to three straight wins after defeating Houston 3-0

Real Salt Lake routed the Houston Dynamo 3-0 on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.

RSL is now tied with FC Dallas for second place in the Western Conference standings with 25 points. They also improve to a three-game winning streak.

The Match

RSL wasted no time in the first minute with forward Bobby Wood trying to head in the first goal of the game. However, the shot went wide left. Houston attempted their first shot off a direct free kick in the fourth minute, but Memo Rodríguez’s shot also missed on the left side.

The match continued to go back and forth with both RSL goalkeeper Zac MacMath and Houston goalkeeper Michael Nelson making incredible saves. Two Houston players also drew yellow cards.

Wood, assisted by Maikel Chang, put RSL on the board in the 29th minute by finding the bottom left corner of the post, putting RSL up 1-0. Wood followed in the 39th minute with his fourth shot of the half, but Nelson made the save. RSL closed out the half with two shots in the 45th minute. However, both were off target.

RSL came out of half aggressive with forward Sergio Córdova taking a close shot in the 47th that missed just to the right. Houston followed with four attempts of their own within the next eight minutes.

Córdova took another shot in the 57th and found the bottom right corner to put RSL up 2-0 over Houston. Houston forward Tyler Pasher tried to answer with a long-range shot in the 59th, but MacMath made the save.

The match again continued to go back and forth, with RSL taking a couple more shots in the latter part of the half. Justen Glad sealed the deal in the 90th + 2nd minute with a header into the center of the goal to give RSL a 3-0 edge. The game finished a minute later.

RSL owned a 53 percent possession advantage over and had 15 shot attempts over their 13. MacMath picked up four saves while maintaining the shutout.

What’s Next

Real Salt Lake now travels to the British Columbia to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada on Saturday, June 4. The match will kick off at 5 p.m. MT and can be streamed on ESPN+.
