The Salt Lake Bees lost their 3-game series against the Oklahoma City Dodgers 2-1. From June 10th to June 12th, the Salt Lake Bees visited the Oklahoma City Dodgers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The Dodgers are the number one seed (as of June 12, 37-23) in the eastern conference of the Pacific Coast Conference. The Bees are the number three seed (as of June 12, 31-29) in the western conference of the Pacific Coast Conference.
Game 1 – Bees 5-3
It was a tied game 2-2 at the end of the ninth inning. The Dodgers nearly scored enough runs at the bottom of the ninth to win the game but was ended short with an in-field flyout and strikeout one after the other.
The Bees were fortunate benefactors of a line drive by Kean Wong to right field with two outs and the bases loaded. All base runners ran through home plate putting them up 5-2 at the top of the tenth. In the following at-bat, David MacKinnon grounded out for the third out.
The Dodgers had a good start to the inning as well scoring one run. With Stefen Romero starting on second base, Michael Busch hit the ball to center field and gave the chance for Romero to run home. Though they were not able to maintain it. The following four batters were a walk, two strikeouts, and a flyout.
Game 2 – Dodgers 10-9
Their second game together was also eventful but in a different way. It did not go into extra innings but was a high-scoring game with each team having five-run innings.
Salt Lake was in the lead 9-5 at the bottom of the eighth. Most people would think a deficit of four runs would be insurmountable. Oklahoma City had other plans as they would score five runs with only walks and singles that got them around the bases.
It was impressive and shows why Oklahoma City is the number one seed. They don’t give up that easily.
Game 3 – Dodgers 8-3
The last game in their three-game series was difficult for the Bees. The Bees were held to three runs in the eighth inning. David MacKinnon gave the Bees their first hit for the Bees in the sixth inning.
In the Bees’ final chance to score in the ninth, Jake Palomaki got on base with a groundball. However, he would not score as his teammates were struck out and ground out.
The Salt Lake Bees ended up losing this quick series 2-1 on the road. The Oklahoma City Dodgers had a strong outing continuing their good play. They have won eight of their last ten games.
The Bees have had their fair share of struggles these past two weeks. Hopefully, they are due for success as they have the potential to win more games. They did it earlier this season after all.
