Defenses dominate the first half
The first half ended with a score of 10-3 in favor of the Darts. The lone touchdown was a perfect 28-yard pass from Stevens to Baggett with 7 seconds remaining. Both defenses consistently turned back the offenses which led to the low-scoring half. Parkinson picked off Stevens for the first time in the first quarter.
Offenses take command in the second half
After the Darts kicked off to the Lancers, Layton drove down the field and evened the score 10-10 with a 37-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Wenzel to Elias Parkinson. Stevens continued his hot passing with completions all over the field and eventually led to the Darts regaining the lead 16-10 with a 13-yard touchdown run by Camden Wilson.
In the fourth quarter, Layton quarterback Wenzel found Teague Farr wide open over the middle of the field for a 65-yard touchdown to tie the score 16-16. Stevens would not be denied as he led the Darts down the field for a scoring drive capped off by Kai Byrd scoring a touchdown from 2 yards out to make the score 23-16 Darts.
Lancers running back Teague Farr responded on the Lancer’s next drive with a 46-yard run deep in Dart territory. Farr’s run set up a perfectly executed reverse pass from receiver Bingham Lawson to quarterback Tyler Wensel to tie the score at 23. With the clock running down Stevens led the Darts quickly into Lancer territory to set up Gage Butler’s game-winning 49-yard field goal.
