After cementing themselves as the number one ranked team in the state win a win over #2 Timpview last week, the Skyridge Falcons weren’t done yet. They defeated Region 4 foe Westlake Thunder by a final score of 62-6.

In their highest scoring game so far this season, the Skyridge Falcons didn’t miss a beat in any of the three phases of the game. With star quarterback McCae Hillstead sidelined with an injury after the Timpview game, Trent Call was able to excel in his first start. He threw four touchdown passes and scored a rushing touchdown of his own.

The Falcons soared over their competition with three touchdowns in each quarter of the first half. The exclamation mark of the game though was a 62-yard run touchdown by Zaeden Selu to end the game. This was their highest scoring game since defeating the Jordan Beetdiggers 68-7 on September 11, 2020.

Skyridge receiver Josh Davis also had an impressive wide-open catch that he took to the house as he was tackled in the end zone. WestLake had a handful of possessions where they had good field possession but were unable to convert. To be fair, the game was out of reach. When they got an interception early in the first half, they got into field goal range. However, false start penalties took them out of the red zone and they were unable to convert on fourth down.

With the win, the Falcons are 6-0 on the seasons and will host a formidable region foe in Corner Canyon next week. It was only a few years ago that Skyridge threatened Corner Canyon’s record win streak when McCae Hillstead was a sophomore. If anyone left on the schedule has a chance to spoil the undefeated regular season Skyridge has, it’s the Chargers. The game will take place in Lehi at Skyridge High School at 7 p.m. MT next week.

Meanwhile, the Westlake Thunder (2-4) are still looking for answers in Region 4, arguably the toughest region in the state, let alone 6A. They will host a Pleasant Grove Vikings team that will be motivated to get the sour taste out of there mouths after a 24-14 loss to Lone Peak tonight. That game will take place in Saratoga Springs at WestLake High School on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 7 p.m. MT.
