Riverton wins Rivalry Game over Mountain Ridge

After a week of hype surrounding this important Region 3 game, the Riverton Silverwolves delivered a convincing 38-13 win over the Mountain Ridge Sentinels Friday night thanks to a second half surge.

“Getting Logan Dunfield back was a huge deal for our team,” Coach Jody Morgan said. “He had really significant plays in the win, but it was also due to our offense finding their identity in the run game. We were physical and had well-timed short passes by Jake who managed the game. He executed how he needed to and we came together as a team.”

Dunfield, the star tight end for Riverton, was back in the lineup after being out for a while. He had two touchdown receptions in the win.

“He is being recruited right now,” Coach Morgan said. “I think he should be recruited by everyone. That kid is awesome.”

With this win, Riverton moves up to 3-1 in Region 3 play and is second place in the standings only to the 4-0 Bingham Miners. Riverton will travel to play the Miners next Friday at 7 p.m. MT in a game that will determine who wins the region championship.

“Our region is a funny one,” Coach Morgan said. “They’re constantly beating up on each other. It’s good football in Region 3.”

At halftime, the Silverwolves led 17-13, but somehow found the necessary momentum to increase that lead.

“Our defense gave us opportunities to have chances at the ball,” Coach Morgan said. “They did a great job and were fundamentally sound. We had some guys go down but other guys stepped up in big time situations.”
