Bingham dismantles West Jordan in grueling fashion 48-0

The West Jordan Jaguars (5-2) hosted the Bingham Miners (6-2) Friday Night in what looked to be a highly competitive matchup. By the end of the night, it was less clear who was the better team as the Miners poured on all night long.

First Half

Just looking at the scoreboard may not indicate it, but it took the Miners almost the entire first quarter to get some points on the board. Running back Carson Sudbury was the first of many Miners to find the end zone as he gave Bingham a 7-0 lead with 2:59 left in the first quarter.

The Jaguars played uphill the rest of the way as their offense struggled to get anything going. Bingham scored again in the second quarter, this time off the arm of quarterback, Dallen Martinez, as he found Havea Fotu from nine yards out (8:55).

Fotu found himself in the endzone just a few minutes later, this time via the ground (5:14). The Miners weren’t done though. Martinez was able to find WR Hunter Mehn right before the half for a 20 yard touchdown (0:06).

Second Half

Fotu got the hat trick in the third quarter as he found the end zone yet again on the ground from five yards out to make it a whopping 35-0 (8:49). Thanks to a turnover, the Miners found themselves in the end zone less than a minute later as RB Kisina Afemui went 25 yards for a score (8:15). Due to a missed PAT the lead grew to 41-0.

The Miners took their foot off the gas as many of the backups saw reps for much of the remaining game. Backups or not, West Jordan just didn’t match up. It just wasn’t their night as they weren’t able to erase that big goose egg on scoreboard.

Bingham notched another touchdown late in the fourth to make the score 48 via running back T.J. Brimhall from 2 yards out (3:36) to make it 48-0. It was pure domination from the Miners from start to finish.

With this massive win, the Miners take sole control of Region 3 heading into the final week of the season. They move to 7-2 on the season and 4-0 in region play. West Jordan falls to 5-3 and 2-2 in region play.

Bingham will host the Riverton Silverwolves (6-3, 3-1) in a huge game as the winner will win Region 3. West Jordan will host the Copper Hills Grizzlies (2-7, 0-4).
