CEDAR CITY, Utah — Utah Valley had an opportunity to tie the game at 69 all and potentially send this back-and-forth contest to overtime. Alexa Lord had other plans. Going to the free throw line with seven seconds left and an opportunity to put the game out of reach, she missed her first attempt. However, she drilled her second to seal a Thunderbird victory that put Southern Utah at 4-0 in WAC play on the season.

Notable Performances

More than half of SUU’s total points came from two players alone. Megan Jensen had 22 and Cherita Daugherty scored 18. That was it for Thunderbirds in double figures, but two did come close with 9 apiece. Samantha Johnston and Daylani Ballena fell short of hitting double figures. Ashley Banks came off the bench for 6 and the freshman showed she could have a bright future ahead.

Up Next

SUU continues its homestand Saturday with a visit from Sam Houston State. That game will be part of a doubleheader with the men’s team. They take on Stephen F Austin earlier in the day.
