CEDAR CITY, Utah — Southern Utah can cement its spot in that top tier of the WAC with wins in its next two games. First up is a visit from Sam Houston State on Thursday night. The Bearkats are 2-2 in WAC play but are much better than that mark would suggest. Sam Houston picked up two Power 6 wins in the nonconference against Oklahoma and Utah. The Thunderbirds will have their hands full against a team that has built quite a resume.

Last Time Out

SUU was able to close out its road trip to Texas with a bang. In a back-and-forth thriller, the Thunderbirds came out on top against Abilene Christian 74-72. That was a nice bounceback from a 65-68 setback against Tarleton last Thursday. Tevian Jones dropped 28 points in the win, more than double what any other Thunderbird had that night. Maizen Fausett and Drake Allen were the only other players in double figures.

A Landmark Opportunity

Sam Houston’s visit to the America First Event Center will come with the Bearkats ranked 39th in the NET. Although the NET rankings have only existed for a short time, the Bearkats will by far be the highest-ranked NET team to play in Cedar City. SUU will have an opportunity to get a program-defining win on Thursday night. It will take an all-around effort by many of the greats on this team.
