CEDAR CITY, Utah — Three-point shots just kept dropping. WAC contenders? The Thunderbirds are certainly that after a huge 86-74 win over Sam Houston State. Maizen Fausett became just the fifth Thunderbird ever to reach 1300 career points after having a game-high 22 against the Bearkats. He jumped into fourth place all-time after hitting 1313 in his career. Harrison Butler is just 23 points away from becoming the sixth member of the 1300-point club after reaching 1277 after this game. Butler had a quiet night however with only 6 points.
So Close, Yet So Far To Go
Sam Houston never went away. The Thunderbirds however kept the Bearkats at arm’s reach. SUU never let its lead be cut to less than 4 points. Fausett went 5 for 5 from three-point range and the team as a whole shot 54.2% from distance. Tevian Jones had 21 points, but a certain player arose from the bench for 17 points. That player was Dee Barnes. In addition to his impressive performance, he was perfect from the free throw line going 4 for 4.
