CEDAR CITY, Utah — It has only been a week since Southern Utah participated in a meet with Utah State. Last week, the two teams were part of the Best of Utah meets in West Valley City. SUU finished 2nd in that meet while the Aggies finished 3rd. The 5th nationally ranked Utah Utes took 1st while BYU finished 4th. Now, the Thunderbirds and Aggies will meet in Cedar City for a dual meet.
Last Time Out
The Thunderbirds proved why they are among the best programs nationally with their second-place finish last week. The 196.175 overall score was the highest ever for a Best of Utah meet. In their most recent home meet against New Hampshire, the Flippin’ Birds recorded a 196.100. The floor rotation saw a season-best 49.350. Karley McClain shined yet again tying for first at Best of Utah with a score of 9.925. That was also the highest score of the night overall. The only other rotation to score 49 or greater was bars.
Work to Do
The beam and vault rotations have some room for improvement. The Aggies outscored the Thunderbirds on the beam 49.025-48.850. That was the only rotation in which USU scored higher than SUU at Best of Utah. While the one event by itself will not dictate the result of the meet, SUU will need to continue the impressive performances it has shown in the other rotations thus far.
