ARLINGTON, Texas — Southern Utah has won nine straight games to begin WAC play. They can improve to 10-0 in the conference and secure a winning record in WAC play with a win on Monday. Their opponent is a fellow newcomer to the WAC in a game originally scheduled for last Thursday. UT-Arlington jumped ship from the Sun Belt this summer and the WAC headquarters relocated to Arlington this fall as well. This will be the only meeting between the two teams this season.
Last Time Out
Megan Jensen turned in a 21-point performance on Saturday to help the Thunderbirds dump UT-Rio Grande Valley. The 84-55 final was the largest margin of victory for SUU in WAC play this season and also the biggest against a Division I opponent. SUU will look to continue the dominant finish to their previous outing during a Monday noon game. Four other Thunderbirds were in double figures in that victory.
Star of the Mavs
UT-Arlington enters this game on a three-game losing streak. Their last win came against the very team that SUU dominated on Saturday. The Mavericks have lost their last three by double digits by a combined 48 points. Based on that, the Thunderbirds should cruise in this one. If the upset does happen, it will likely be thanks to a big day by Starr Jacobs. She has been a star for the Mavericks leading the team in four of the five main statistical categories. As the team’s leader in average points, rebounds, assists, and steals per game, she can be a do-it-all player. Keeping her in check and putting the game out of reach early are the two main keys to a Thunderbird victory.
