CEDAR CITY, Utah — With Southern Utah’s win on Saturday, the Thunderbirds now have a two-game lead for first place in the WAC standings. They have an opportunity to bring home a WAC regular season title in their first year in the conference. They can clinch a share of the title with wins in two of their final four games. If they win three of their last four, SUU can win it outright if Stephen F Austin wins out. Should the Ladyjacks drop another game, the Thunderbirds just need to win two games down the stretch.
Double-Double Lizzy (Again)
Lizzy Willamson had her ninth double-double of the season in the win. She had 15 rebounds and 16 points while also having 2 of assists, blocks, and steals. Megan Jensen had 16 points of her own while Tomekia Whitman had yet another impressive day off the bench scoring 14 points. Cherita Daugherty followed up her 32-point effort on Thursday with only 7 points against the Ladyjacks. Daylani Ballena and Samantha Johnston had 8 and 5 points respectively.
Up Next
The Thunderbirds will look to wrap up at least a share of the WAC regular season title on a road trip to Texas. They will first play at Abilene Christian on Thursday then visit the last place Tarleton on Saturday. SUU’s only WAC loss on the season came in their last visit to the Lone Star state against UT-Arlington.
