Southern Utah Faces UT-Arlington to Open Lone Star Road Trip

ARLINGTON, Texas — Southern Utah heads into a two-game stretch that could either make or break their season. Coming off an emotional rivalry win over Utah Tech, the Thunderbirds face a crucial time. In their second of two trips to the Lone Star State, SUU needs to avoid going 0-2. While the team owns wins over some of the top teams in the conference, they have all come in the friendly confines of the America First Event Center. SUU has yet to play a complete game on the road and has not won away from Cedar City by more than 4 points. The Thunderbirds will need to play their best road game of the year if they want to leave Arlington with a win.

Last Time Out

SUU let out all the emotions on Friday night. The Thunderbirds vanquished their demons in a revenge game against Utah Tech that saw 4,554 in attendance at the America First Event Center. The Trailblazers gave SUU everything they could handle even taking a lead midway through the 2nd half. However, SUU was not about to lose to their bitter rival again. Four Thunderbirds scored 14 points or more. Tevian Jones led the scoring with 22 points and the Thunderbirds avoided the sweep by the Trailblazers.

Momentous Mavs

UT-Arlington has had a disappointing season. Just under two weeks ago, their head coach Greg Young was relieved of his duties. Royce Johnson, an assistant has assumed interim head coaching duties for the remainder of the campaign. He has already made his case for the full-time role with a statement road win last Saturday. The Mavericks knocked off Stephen F Austin 75-70 on the road and bring a lot of momentum into Thursday’s game. The Thunderbirds will need to be on their A-game if they want to come away with the win in this one.
