HUNTSVILLE, Texas — After taking care of business against UT-Arlington on Thursday, all eyes are on a huge game. Southern Utah visits Sam Houston on Saturday with sole possession of 2nd place in the WAC standings on the line. The two teams have already met once this season. The Thunderbirds came away with an 86-74 victory over the Bearkats last month at the America First Event Center. Now, the two will do battle in Sam Houston’s building with much higher stakes. The winner of this game will be in a great position to share the WAC regular season title with Utah Valley. With the Wolverines losing Thursday at Tarleton, the door is open for either of these teams should either win out or UVU loses another one.

Last Time Out

In a trap game at UT-Arlington, the Thunderbirds did not fall for the trap. Dee Barnes coming off the bench for 20 points was the story of the night in SUU’s best road showing of the year. Tevian Jones had 21 points of his own as the two players combined for 41 points. Drake Allen and Maizen Fausett helped out with 17 and 13 points respectively.

Eat Em Kats Up

The Bearkats started off the season red hot. Sam Houston recorded Power 6 wins at Oklahoma and Utah early on in the year building quite a resume. That resume could give the Bearkats the 1 seed at the WAC Tournament even without winning the regular season title. This is a result of the WAC’s unique resume seeding system that also looks at non-conference games. When these two teams met at the America First Event Center, SUU’s explosive offense carried the way. Since the Bearkats lost that game, they are 9-1 with the lone defeat coming against UT-Arlington. The Thunderbirds will need to turn in another big day on offense if they want to complete the season sweep of Sam Houston.
