Sometimes the Aggies are on the losing end. They lost a close basketball game over the weekend in overtime against a tough Bradley squad. They lost a soccer playoff game in Provo over the weekend. However, a football win heals all wounds and it carried onto the basketball court this week for a big in-state win as well.
Utah State just one game away from bowl eligibility
The USU football team did what it had to do to keep its postseason hopes alive. The big man touchdown by Seni Tuiaki was the bow on the interception gift that the Nevada Wolfpack handed the Aggies. That was the turning point in the game as the Aggies cruised to a two touchdown lead at halftime and won 41-24. This win put the Aggies at 5-5 with their final home game remaining this Saturday against Boise State. The broadcast will start at 5 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network. Currently there are 58 bowl eligible teams with 24 more spots up for grabs for the 41 college bowl games.
Aggie basketball earns in-state win
While the women’s team won on a game winning layup in Kansas City, the men were taking care of business in the Spectrum. The Aggies won 93-84 while earning the entire crowd a trip to the local Culver’s restaurant. This year the local location increased the point requirement to 80 points to the dismay of fans. The Aggies had moments of offensive explosion, but they were outscored 11-2 early on before coming back and taking a one point lead before half.
While Great Osobor bullied his defenders as a traditional big man, it was Darius Brown II who caught fire from long range as he made 5-9 from three. Isobar and Brown combined for 53 points. Javon Jackson led the bench with 9 points.
The Aggies will have a few days off before heading to the Cayman Islands where they will start their tournament against the Marshall Thundering Herd. That game will tip off on Sunday at 3 p.m. MDT.
