The Utah Jazz (13-18) wraps up their five-game road trip against the New Orleans Pelicans (17-14) in their third meeting this season.
What to Look For
Even with New Orleans being the favorite in this matchup, Utah has won both of their pervious matchups this season. Along with their own win streak against New Orleans, Utah is coming into this game on a three-game winning streak along with winning six of their last eight games where New Orleans is looking to avoid a three-game losing streak. A major contributor to Utah’s success has been the return of Jordan Clarkson with the bench unit. After missing six games due to a hamstring injury, Clarkson came back with an offensive resurgence and creating for his teammates. Averaging 27/4.5/5.5 and a combined +/- rating of +35 in his two games back, it’s looking like it may be more beneficial for Clarkson to play with the secondary group.
Key of the Game
Grabbing the boards. Even with Jonas Valanciunas averaging 9.9 rebounds per game, there’s a major drop off from New Orleans rebounding leading to second in command. Zion Williamson is averaging 6.1 rebounds per game and though his numbers doesn’t match his physicality, Williamson will bully his way to some boards. New Orleans’ frontcourt will need to compete against the likes of John Collins, Walker Kessler and Lauri Markkanen who all average 8.0+ rebounds per game. Though the individual numbers are intriguing, Utah is top-10 in opponent rebounds per game (42.4), which may turn the tides in this game.
