The game between the Utah Jazz and Golden State Warriors for tonight, January 17, has been postponed until further notice.
The NBA announced on Wednesday morning that the game has been postponed due to a medical emergency involving a member of Golden State’s coaching staff. Information about the medical emergency has not been released at this time.
The staff member in question is Golden State assistant coach Dejan Milojevic. According to Serbian outlet Sportklub, the incident took place during a private team dinner in Salt Lake City where he was then rushed to the hospital due to a rumored heart attack. Golden State staff members stayed with Milojevic till late last night and then returned this morning before the postponement announcement.
This is Milojevic’s third season as an assistant coach with Golden State after a prominent playing career overseas with Buducnost (2000-04), Partizan (2004-06), Pamesa Valencia (2006-08) and Galatasaray (2009) along with earning a gold medal for Yugoslavia’s junior national team in 1998 and gold for the senior national team in 2001. Three years after his retirement, Milojevic went on to coach Mega Vizura in Serbia seeing the likes of Nikola Jokic and Ivica Zubac from 2012-2020. Milojevic received his first shot at coaching in the NBA in 2018 in Summer League with the Houston Rockets. This opportunity opened the door for the NBA as in 2021, Milojevic would join the Golden State’s coaching staff.
With the late notice, according to Andy Larsen of the Salt Lake Tribune, the Utah Jazz will honor tickets that were purchased for tonight’s game for the rescheduled game when that date is announced.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Milojevic, his family, friends and the Golden State organization.
*Update at 12:32 – Dejan Milojevic has passed away. He was 46-years-old.
