The Aggies slowly climbed up one spot in the AP Top 25 to number 17 in the nation after a thrilling overtime win in Boise. While the Aggies are happy with the dominating 82-61 win over San Jose State, rent is still due to get ready for a primetime matchup in San Diego on Saturday.
Turning Point
The game stayed relatively close as the Aggies took a 37-30 lead into halftime. The difference was when Great Osobor decided to take matters into his own hands. He attacked the paint with three layups in the first five minutes of the second half, the last of which put the Aggies up by 13 points.
Osobor’s dominating second half led to a 31 point outing. This is his third game this season crossing the 30-point mark. He also chipped in seven rebounds as well and currently leads the Mountain West win 9.6 boards per game.
Aggie Analytics
As mentioned previously, attacking the paint did wonders for the Aggies, who scored 44 points in that area of the court compared to just 36 from San Jose State. They had the perfect blend of shots from the paint (22) and three (6). Just two of their field goals came from mid range. Utah State was focusing on high quality shots in this game.
Ice Cream Man
Sakho winning ice cream for everyone off a free throw on the second try was not the prediction most had in mind. For every home game, the Scotsman show podcast predicts who the ice cream man will be. In 10 home games the Aggies have earned free Culver’s ice cream in 8 tries. To do so, they have to score 80 or more points in a game. Not bad for what was projected to be a defensive minded team.
The Aggies will play San Diego State at Viejas Arena this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast nationally on FOX.
