Will the Jazz trade up to get the next Donovan Mitchell. Will any player drafted with their 21st pick make an immediate impact? It’s the NBA Draft Eve so it’s time to break things down!
The draft trade we’d like to see:
Jazz trade 21st pick and Alec Burks to the Nuggets in exchange for their 14th pick.
What could the Jazz do with this pick? Several national media outlets have the Nuggets taking Miles Bridges of Michigan State with that pick.
Why would this be a good move? The price might be too steep to retain Derrick Favors for the production he is able to give with his chronic back injuries. Bridges would be a more fresh power forward. He doesn’t fill up the box score but he plays basketball the right way and can create his own shot.
Why won’t this happen? Well, look what the Jazz got from the Nuggets last year? Donovan Mitchell in exchange for Tyler Lydon and Trey Lyles! The Jazz should be charged for first degree robbery with that deal! Fool the Nuggets twice and shame on them.
Who should the Jazz pick if they keep the 21st pick?
Draft UCLA point guard Aaron Holiday if he’s available. He comes from a family with NBA experience and knows how to play basketball the right way.
There are still some question marks on who could be the backup point guard for the Jazz. Dante Exum has been talented but very injury prone. It would be nice for the Jazz to get someone worthy of a sixth man of the year off the bench.
Who should the Jazz avoid?
Anyone at shooting guard. Donovan Mitchell was a steal and nobody is about to develop a lot as a rookie as long as he is healthy to claim the starting spot.
So hold your horses on Donte DiVicenzo of Villanova. Stay away from Josh Okogie. Unless they manage to trade for a top pick and draft Luca Doncic the Jazz should stay away from this position for a late first round pick.
It will be a great night for the Jazz but certainly not a future altering one for the Jazz. For every Donovan Mitchell there’s a Trey Burke. One can only hope the Jazz continue to develop the talent they bring in. So far their future looks to be headed in the right direction.
