by Elmer Mejia | The Utah Jazz have played eight games so far and have won four and lost four of these matches. They have had their ups and downs throughout the beginning of the season. They have recovered some missing pieces and will continue to work hard to improve as the season continues.
First Eight Games Of The Season
The Utah Jazz have a 4-4 record this year in which we have seen them play at their best as well as their worst. Nevertheless, the season is still young and they have room for improvement. They started off the season at Portland and won a difficult match on paper 120-100. Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, and Mike Conley all had great games. We saw the return of Bojan Bogdanovic who produced 15 points that night and the Jazz bench, led by Joe Ingles and Jordan Clarkson, also contributed to the win.
In their second match they lost to the Timberwolves 116-111 at home. It was a tough match as the Jazz couldn’t start the home opener of this season with a win. As usual, Mitchell and Gobert had a good game as well as Conley. Once again Clarkson had a stellar performance and was the leading scorer that night with 23 points. D’Angelo Russell was too much for the Jazz although they contained Karl-Anthony Towns to just 16 points.
Clearly the closest encounter thus far was against the Thunder in which the Jazz won a tight game 110-109. Bogdanovic had a big game with 23 points and was helped by Mitchell and Conley who both produced 20 points that night. Indeed it was a thrilling match that went to the wire. The Jazz managed to come through and win a tough road match that night.
Next, they played the Suns at home in which they lost 106-95. The usual scorers had a decent match but couldn’t help the team that night to win. Bogdanovic had an awful game in which he only made three points and didn’t look like himself.
They then beat the Clippers in a tough match. The Jazz played a great game and Conley had a monstrous game with 33 points. That is the most he’s ever scored in a Jazz uniform. That helped the Jazz a lot as they beat the Clippers l06-100. This proved that the Jazz could hang with the big boys as they held Leonard and George to an average performance.
In their next road game, they visited the Spurs and beat them 130-109. Bogdanovic stepped up that night with 28 points and Mitchell had 22. All the starters produced double-digit point totals except Gobert. Although, he had 16 rebounds and a solid defensive performance. The bench was productive offensively and the Jazz just ran over the Spurs that night.
Following an amazing night, the Spurs lost badly to the Nets 96-130. It was just a horrible match that Kevin Durant missed in which it would’ve been worse for the Jazz. Irving took control of the game and couldn’t be stopped. Mitchell had a great game with 33 points but the team overall did not look great that night.
Lastly, they played the Knicks at MSG and it ended in a devastating 100-112 loss. The Jazz saw a double-digit lead fade away and couldn’t manage to regain the lead. Clarkson was the leading scorer coming off the bench with 19 points. That tells you how bad the Jazz ended the game in which started very promising.
The Jazz Look To Bounce Back
The Jazz will look to bounce back in a tough road match against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks on Friday night. This will undoubtedly be a tough match. However, the Jazz have enough star power to surprise anyone any given night. The Jazz will look to improve to five wins and four losses this season.
