The Utah Jazz to trade star center Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Bolmaro, 2022 first-round pick Walker Kessler and four first-round picks. Three of the four picks will be unprotected in 2023, 2025, and 2027 and a top-five protected pick in 2029, according to ESPN sources.
Gobert has spent his nine years in the league with the Jazz, receiving three Defensive Player of the Year awards, four All-NBA selections, and six first-team All-Defensive selections. Playing with the Timberwolves will now pair him with All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns, the No. 1 pick in the 2020 draft.
In the last 24 hours, the Jazz has managed to pick up six first-round picks in exchange for trading Gobert, with the plan to rebuild the roster around Utah’s 25-year-old guard and All-Star Donovan Mitchell according to ESPN sources.
Gobert tweeted Friday night thanking Utah and the Jazz franchise.
“I was just a kid from France when I got here 9 years ago but I felt embraced and supported since day one,” said Gobert. “I’ve grown as a man and as a player before your very eyes and I’m thankful [for] every single moment.”
