Ontario Clippers Outshine the Stars
Game two of the series between the Salt Lake City Stars and Ontario Clippers occurred Saturday night at the Vivint Arena. The Clippers would display their second-best defense and fourth-best offense defeating the Stars handily, 106-93.
Defensive Woes
Xavier Moon Led the Clipper’s offense with 27 points. Moon would find success against the Strs’ struggling defense by driving to the paint and scoring or dishing it to an open teammate. Moon finished the night with 27 points and 8 assists.
Ontario forward, Moussa Diabate, contributed to the Clipper’s win with 24 points and 20 rebounds, ending the night with a double-double.
Tough Night Offensively
The Star’s Frank Jackson led the home team’s offense with 21 points but would struggle beyond the arc shooting 2 for 9 for 3. Tyler Cook would have a productive night with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
SLC struggled offensively all night. They would end the night 5 of 25, or 20%, for 3-pointers.
With his halftime remarks, Coach Lowell Egan acknowledged the need for shooting in the paint and defensive strategy against the Clipper’s defense.
“We need to focus on getting the ball in the paint before we take a three,” coach Egan said. “We must keep Moon out of the paint and Diabate off the glass.”
Thinking Positive
While Diabate accumulated the most rebounds individually, the Stars would out-rebound the Clippers 50-43.
The Stars completed the night with turnovers with 12 to the Clipper’s 10. The past two game-turnover-stats for SLC were 19 and 16, respectively (vs Stockton Kings and the first game of the Clippers series).
Looking Forward
The SLC Stars start a two-game series against Oklahoma City Blue Tuesday, December 13th. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
