Davis controls momentum early

Davis was on the road at Fremont High School’s Moyes Stadium in Plain City, looking to bounce back from an opening‑season loss to Corner Canyon and avenge last year’s defeat to the Silverwolves. The Darts delivered a statement performance, dominating offense, defense, and special teams to secure a convincing 56–28 win.

Junior quarterback Brodie Scheinberg was sharp throughout the night, throwing for 222 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with seniors Bode Sparrow, Jaxton Itaaehau, and Cooper Rigby. At the same time, the run game was powered by senior Kysen Gallegos, who scored twice, and junior Briggs Taylor, who led all rushers with 61 yards.

Defensively, Davis played fast and physical. Seniors Austin Yeates and Dexter Frasure each posted 10 tackles, and senior Sam Coleman produced one of the game’s biggest momentum swings with an interception.

Coleman said afterward that the team’s response from Week 1 was exactly what they needed:

“The team played really well, a good bounce back from week one, glad we could get rolling a little bit,” Coleman said.

He also broke down his interception:

“I was just playing back, making sure not to get beat deep,” Coleman said. “I saw the ball go and the receiver move up, so I knew it was going to be overthrown. I was able to creep up and get an easy pick thrown right to me. I saw some blockers and wanted a touchdown, so I took it back. I’m still pretty sure I was in for the touchdown even though they marked me on the one, but I’m happy I got the chance for that.”

Bridger Young

Junior linebacker Bridger Young made plays and disrupted the Silverwolves’ offense the entire game.

After the game, Young, who scored immediately after Coleman’s interception, described the mindset that fueled the defensive effort.

“A big factor that helped our defense is keeping our juice going throughout the entire game, not letting up, and getting pumped after big plays,” Young said. “What separates us from falling to them last year and us winning last night is the team’s belief in what we can do. We all know what we are capable of, and we won’t let each other let off, we hold each other accountable.”

Special teams added their own fireworks: Elias Peterson blocked a punt deep in Fremont territory, and Sparrow delivered an 80‑yard kickoff return touchdown that halted a Fremont rally.

Fremont battles behind Cooper’s four touchdowns

Fremont played without Head Coach Nate Tuatagaloa for undisclosed reasons, but senior quarterback Calvin Cooper kept the Silverwolves competitive. Cooper threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns, finding Jack Moss, Ky Majors, Isaia Fonotisatele, and Porter Hales for scores. Fonotisatele’s 40‑yard sideline catch set up his third‑quarter touchdown, one of Fremont’s most explosive plays of the night.

On defense, Aisa Tuatagaloa led Fremont with nine tackles, RJ Fonoti added two tackles for loss, and Tayvion Noriega energized the team late in the first half with two sacks that helped slow Davis’ offense heading into halftime.

Game scoring details

Davis opened the scoring midway through the first quarter when Scheinberg found Sparrow on an 8‑yard touchdown, a fade pattern that capped a steady opening drive. The Darts held that 7–0 lead into the second quarter, where the game’s pace accelerated.

Fremont tied the game at 7–7 when Cooper had time in the pocket and hit Majors on a 25‑yard strike over the middle. Davis responded immediately. Coleman’s 55‑yard kickoff return set up Gallegos’ 2‑yard touchdown run, a physical push behind the offensive line that restored the Darts’ lead at 14–7. The Darts’ offensive line of seniors Mason Bush, Krew Plyer, Curly McConnachie, and Hudson Smith, along with junior Noah Bingham, played a key role in the offense’s success throughout the game.

Moments later, Coleman intercepted Cooper and returned the ball to the 1‑yard line. On the next snap, Young powered in from a yard out to make it 21–7. Fremont’s next possession stalled, and Peterson’s blocked punt gave Davis the ball deep in Silverwolf territory. Scheinberg capitalized by finding Rigby for a 3‑yard touchdown, extending the lead to 28–7.

Fremont fought back before halftime. Cooper connected with Moss on a well‑timed route with 55 seconds left, trimming the deficit to 28–14. Noriega’s two sacks on the final Davis possession of the half gave the Silverwolves a spark heading into the locker room.

The third quarter opened with Fremont failing to convert on fourth down in its own territory. Davis made them pay. Scheinberg hit Sparrow and Itaahau on back‑to‑back completions, and Gallegos finished the drive with his second touchdown, a tough run up the middle that pushed the lead to 35–14.

Cooper answered with a touchdown to Fonotisatele, set up by a 40‑yard sideline catch that flipped field position. The score cut the lead to 35–21, but an unsportsmanlike penalty on the touchdown forced Fremont to kick off from its own 25. Sparrow seized the moment, weaving through coverage and headed down the sidelines for an 80‑yard kickoff return touchdown, restoring Davis’ momentum and stretching the lead to 42–21.

In the fourth quarter, Davis continued to control the game. Scheinberg found Itaahau on a slant route for a 10‑yard touchdown pass, making it 49–21. Fremont answered with Cooper’s fourth touchdown of the night, a 5‑yard pass to Hales that brought the score to 49–28.

Davis closed the night with a final touchdown drive highlighted by Taylor’s steady running. He capped the possession with a 10‑yard touchdown, bouncing outside and outrunning two defenders to seal the 56–28 victory at Moyes Stadium.
