The Dallas Mavericks gave the Utah Jazz their second loss of the preseason with the final score of 111-101.
Throughout the first and beginning of the second quarter, the score remained close. Neither team lead by more than six points. The Mavericks had a five-point lead when the first half ended with the score of 61-56.
The Jazz struggled to score in the final three minutes of the third quarter. The Mavericks found momentum on offense and stretched their lead to 18 points (92-74). Towards the end of the fourth quarter, the Jazz cut the lead by ten points but still couldn’t get the win.
Utah Jazz’s rookie Jared Butler left his mark on the hardwood once again by putting up 22 points. Eric Paschall scored 13 points while both Royce O’Neale and Malik Fitts scored 12 points.
Dallas Mavericks starting point guard Luca Dončić scored 19 points and six rebounds in just 16 minutes. Boban Marjanović scored 14 points while Calik Jones scored 13 points.
The Utah Jazz shot 39 of 94 (41.5 percent) from the field and 16 of 52 (30.8 percent)from the three-point line. The Jazz also shot 7 of 11 (63.6 percent) from the free-throw line. The Dallas Mavericks shot 43 of 91 (47.3 percent) from the field and 11 of 30 (36.7 percent) from the three-point line. The Mavericks shot 14 of 20 (70 percent) from the free-throw line.
Offensively, the Mavericks focused on feeding the ball down low to get easy inside points. They had 58 points in the paint, but the Jazz played aggressive defense down low to cause more turnovers. Both teams struggled to maintain possession of the basketball. The Jazz had 13 turnovers while the Mavericks had 14 of their own.
The Utah Jazz will next be facing the New Orleans Pelicans on October 11 at 6 p.m. MST.
